My first Dodge

I bought a 2002 Dodge quad cab, short bed.
Its got the 4.7 V8 with automatic tranny.
The truck looks, runs and drives like new, with 130000 miles on it.
I was looking around in this forum and noticed some comments that the Hemi gets better than 12mpg...not sure if this is true or not.
Anyways, my truck gets 12mpg, the car fax says its suposed to get 15mpg.
What could possably, if anything, be causing me to be getting such bad gas milage?
I was also looking at getting a chip for better gas milage.
Anyone had any personal experiances that can recommend one?
Thanks for the advice.

the chips don't usualy cause more than 5 or 6 mpg better (still good), try checking the fuel filter.

I believe the fuel filter on this is part of the fuel pump. There is one place that does it by splicing it in certain sensor wiring and I know some that did this to his with a hemi doing it to the air charge tempature sensor and an oxygen sensor. His fuel mileage went up and ordered them from this place. The 4.7 is not a reliable engine and an used 4.7 goes for $1,500.00 when you find one.Plus it is an expensive engine to fix when it breaks and parts are very expensive too.

Thanks for the replys.
And please forgive my ignorance.
But how would a fuel filter affect MPG?
Thanks again!
