New Burb owner! 1999 k1500 5.7
So I picked up my burb and need to do a water pump replacement. It looks like I just remove the alternator and thats it. am I right?
ANything I should do while in there? (Tstat, manifold gasket, etc)
And how do I completely flush all the green coolant out so I can replace with dexcool? I have the rear heat I think, I see 2 big hoses heading to the back of the burb from the cylinder head.
Any advice is appreciated :)

I replaced the water pump on my 1994 5.7 liter Suburban last year, don't remeber needing to take its alternator off, was straightforward R&R. In the past I did replace alternator, though, and that was easy. Maybe yours is a little different. Anyway, to flush completely, what I'd do is install one of those Prestone-type tee fittings (comes as a kit) into your heater hose, and your garden hose attaches to that and all the coolant that was remaining comes out your radiator cap; of course turn both front and rear heaters on high as you do this to flush those. Then you can drain out the water, add half your total capacity with 100% coolant, then top off the system with water.
