Hi, Im new to this forum, i hope this can help. I have a 1999 p71 with 110,000mi on it, The car is clean while driving it home it starting to die. I thought maybe it was out of gas. Filled it up and drove but still died out. The car just shuts off with out warning when stoped at a light. the temp light comes on but the temp is at 190 ( used my scanner) No codes are thrown. I can let the car run in park all day. I changed the fuel filer ( the old was was clogged up, and i have 35pounds at the fuel rail at idle up to 42 when i rev up. new plugs and the coils are in good shape. new IAC. New fuel filter and good gas. I can let the car run in the drive way in drive with the e-break and will cut out. but it stays running all day in park. i have a few ideas what it may be but just looking for more solid knowldege. Thank you. Joe

You said your coils are all OK, but you have at least one that is shorting out and causing the problem. The coil will short out and the PCM shuts down to keep form self destructing. So if you can find the coil that is shorting out, you will cure the problem.

thank you for your reply. If the coil was shorting out wouldent this also occur when the car is in park. The problem only occurs in gear. Also not all the light on the dash come on only the temp sensor. i got a code of the computer for a temp sensor. But the temp is at 190?

Usually the coils will misfire under load. That is what you stated in your original post. Putting the brake on and accelerating will load the coils up. That is when the misfire will occur. If you don't mind to post your VIN, I can run it through Ford's website. If you don't want to post it in the forums, PM it to me and I will get back to you. I can run Special Service Messages along with the Technical Service Bulletins. Let me know.
