'93 Wrangler 6 Cylinder 4.0 Firing Sequence

I just replaced the rotor and cap...and I think I replaced the wires in the right place on the rotor cap. I assume the pistons are number from 1 to 6 beginning with the front of the engine. If so, what should be the firing sequence and the order of the wires to the piston spark plugs be? The engine appears to run fine...but what should I experience if the firing sequence is our of order?

Is there some 'magic' to pulling the wire off each spark plug. The manual says the wire should be 'rotated' half way then pulled. Does that also mean that the wire should be rotated as it is re-applied. Seems simply by pushing the wire end on the spark plug works just fine!

...I also noticed that one of the wire 'caps' was a tad bit rusted so I couldn't get as good a fit on one of the spark plugs as the other five. Should I have replaced the wires?

You are correct, 1-6 from front to back. Firing sequence: 1-5-3-6-2-4. If you got it wrong, the engine won't run or will run quite rough.

No magic for spark plug wires, just be sure to pull on the boot rather than the wire...if you just pull the wire it will come out of the boot.

If you just got the Jeep and parts of the wires are rusted, replace them. Hopefully you've also replaced the spark plugs as well.

Tnx Fredjacksonsan! Bought some new plugs and wires and installed 'em. Motor ran rough for a couple of days until I rechecked the plug gaps. Sure enough, one of the plugs ( cylinder 6 ) had barely any gap at all! Regaped it and the engine runs like a 'top'....more power and no slugishness!!! During the period of a couple of days when the engine was running rough, I though I may have installed the incorrect spark plugs. I replaced Champion RC12LCY with the same but then noticed the Haynes manual specifies RC9YC or equivalent for '93 fuel-injected engines. However, NAPA specs claim the RC12LCY are correct. The RC12LCY has a longer 'neck' than the RC9YC and the RC12LCY apparently runs 'hotter'.

Thoughts?

You're welcome. If the Jeep runs fine, use whatever plugs you got. You might want to check one after 5000 miles to see how it's doing...there are several websites that show plug conditions, but on my 99 and my wife's 01 we used the 12 series Champions. My 04 had NGK new from the factory, and they've been fine.

I've had an issue before with NAPA's database being wrong, they one time tried to give me Dexron ATF instead of ATF+4! So I don't necessarily trust their accuracy.

I've always changed my plugs every 30000 miles and they've been in pretty good shape. Check yours at 30k, and replace along with the cap and rotor and you should pretty much never have an issue.

For the soft clutch pedal, it could be a number of things, there are several posts on this forum about it. I'm off to work now, so will have a look later if I can.

FYI...
You rotate the wire when disconnecting it so you can break loose the rubber boot prior to pulling off the wire terminal. It's much easier to get them apart without ripping the end off the wire.
