72 chevelle front and rear bushing replacement

I've got a 72 chevelle and I bought the hyper energy suspension kit for the entire car. I work on it after work and on the weekends and would like to replace the bushings in the front and rear. Any tips or how toos would be greatly appreciated! I'm 21 and willing to learn everything about the hotrod world. I've built a couple of motors but suspension is just not my forte yet. So any help/comments would help, thanks! One more thing I have acsses to any tools that I might need.

If you've never taken the springs out of the front suspension, I highly suggest you be very careful in doing so. There is a lot of stored energy in the spring. BE CAREFUL! The bushings are pressed in and out, so you'll need a press and some specific spacers to keep from crushing the a arms (front) or upper lower control arms (rear). I usually end up taking the a arms and new bushings down to the machine shop and have them do it, its fairly cheap and easy. I like to do things myself too, but sometimes on things like that it just makes sense to have it done. Then the fun begins, putting the springs back in.

If you have an Auto Zone or Advance Auto near you. They will loan you the tools for free.

first , read up on what you want to do! hands on is fine,but read read read.i hope you have a place to do this type of repair,could take you awhile. but it not that hard, if you have the space and the tools. you will need jack stands and a couple jacks too and listen to the guys about safety!!!

changing bushings is tricky, sometimes they don't come out, and if you pound on them too hard the control arms will bend. I would use an impact air hammer then take them to the machine shop to clean and get new bushings in them, the springs are loaded, like the guy above said, when you put everything back togeather, set the car down and loosen the nuts on the upper control arms until the suspension looks str8, then you should have the space you need to put shims in. one of the most important things with the front end suspension rebuild is getting the upper control arm rocker shaft in correctly. .........It is the shaft that the upper control arm pivots on....I dont know what the shaft is called but it's already a bitch getting old upper bushings out...new ones are even more difficult
