I'm tring to help a friend out on this one and I'm not a ford man. Any suggestions are appreciated. My buddies grandsons Explorer died while on the way home last night, it would fire then shut right off. It did this for 15 to 20 times but would never return to running. I got the car dolly and brought it in this morning without trying the motor, once I was home and started to unload the truck I hit the switch and it cranked right up and hasn't cut "itself" off since. I checked the fuel filter and it was fine, checked the fuel pressure, it has 67/68 psi with the vacuum line on or off of the regulator. I have no idea what the fuel pressure requirement is for this engine but it seems to have enough and maybe too much. I need all of the help I can get on this one. Thanks bracketshark :banghead:

The fuel pressure specification is 65 +/- 8 psi.

Is the Explorer idling fine for you now? Have you checked for any diagnostic codes, both current and pending?

The Explorer is running well today and I have not checked to see if a code is stored, but I will. First thing I'm going to do is drive it with the fuel pressure gauge hooked up and see if I can duplicate the problem to rule out a fuel issue. Thanks for the reply

I drove the Explorer ~50 miles today, it never got below 61 psi of fuel pressure. we also checked for stored codes, there were none. The owner picked the truck up and left saying he'd let me know what happens. Hum, he didn't even offer to pay for the tow much less the time spent. Wonder what that means. Thaks

It probably means he thinks he'll be back in a matter of days. :evillol:
