Got a good story here, that should make all the Maxima drivers here proud. So I was rolling through uptown (a prissy area in Minneapolis) and this newest update Trans Am pulls up next to me at a stoplight, so I look over and give him the nod. He of course thinks he will piss all over me, so doesn't bother to really try for a good launch. I get a good drop and by the time he realizes I am for real, I have him by a good car length and once I hit the upper RPM range, i keep pulling little by little and then i shut down at 50 and he does a ricer fly by of course. So we hit the next light, and he gets a little on me from the jump, but once the VQ kicks in again I start pulling on him in the higher revs. All he could do is shake his head in amazement. VQ kicks ass!!!

Cool I didn't know the new maximas could do that good kill!

i din't think i would be able to take him either, it just goes to show you that some good shifting and a VQ can do a lot

damn, not that it would even matter, either way it's a 300+hp car.

good shit, man.

He must have either:
A) Been a shitty six-speed driver
or
B) you are a really good six-speed driver

I honestly think that if someway possible, I could drive my car and a 6-speed WS6 Trans-am simultaneously, my car would lose(2002 6-speed, WAI,y-pipe,exhaust).
I have driven a WS6 Trans-am(That's the ram-air package 325 horsepower) and they are freaking beasts. If driven properly, they can definitely pull like a bitch.

it wasn't a WS6, so i think that means 15 less HP, but anyways, it's hard to get all that torque to the ground smoothly, and the 1-2 shift can't be all that easy, i think those baby's have 340-350 TQ. i drove a 95 cobra once, and those have like 317 TQ, and that was hard to launch without smoking the tires

Yeah, if you take off the traction control you have some burnt Dunlop's. It must have been a Formula. Same power as the Z-28 Camaro(315 horse, 340 torque).

It could have been an older Firebird with the 275, the 305hp or even the 310 Firehawk Firebird.

regardless, it's a family sedan beating a sports car with a god deal more horspower and torque

you guys, i'm not an idiot, it was a newst update Trans Am Firebird with 310 HP w/o the WS6 package, and it was a 6 speed. a formula is a lower trim level than the trans am, and the WS6 packageis only optional

they do come in 6's but you can tell the difference between a 6 and 8 just by listening to it idle.

You can see what I'm getting at though.

besides the fact that is says Trans Am on it...and had it been a v6, i would have absolutely demolished the thing. v8's are easily distinguishable from the v6's

Sorry man, I'm was just a little skeptical. If you're postive it was the big dog, then I congratulate you on the kill. Always nice to see the underdog come out on top.:)

You can also tell iif it is a V8 if it has two giant mufflers or the 4 mufflers. The V6 has one small muffler and the V6 power package has the 2 small mufflers.

First off congratulations to Thrasher for thrashing his @$$ but I would like to ask, what makes you so sure that it was a V8 because of the exhaust?

Can't these stock or similar aftermarket exhausts be purchased and placed on the V6 model to make it appear or sound like a V8? I'm just asking because I've seen V6 Mustangs with exhaust and pipes like the 4.6 V8 model, so why couldn't this be so with the Trans Am?

I think the only undisputable proof is to find out what was under his hood or to ask him what version of the car he had. If at all possible now when I race someone and I'm not certain what they are running I try to get them to pull over and talk to me.

Most of them do but some don't because they are too embarassed that a family car beat them.
Can someone answer those questions for me, please?

There are several ways i could tell it was a v8. first off, it had the dual exhaust. secondly, it said trans am on the body panels. thirdly, it had the bigger wheels. fourth, it rumbled like only a 5.7 can, and 3.8 with duals doesn't create that deep burbling sound, there's no repleacment for displacement. fifth, it had the cool daytime running lights, and i don't believe the v6's have those. and on top of that, i would have raped a v6, kicked him to the curb, spit on him, and knocked his teeth out. this was a close race, and there is no way a v6 can run anywhere close to me, especially with my driving skill, which without a doubt eiliminates the possibilty of a base model keeping up with me. believe me, it was a v8, no doubt about it.

I'm not doubting your credibility, it's just when people say things like, "I could tell because he had dual exhaust or the 2 pipes coming out the back." That means very little nowadays, just look at my earlier post about the V6 Mustangs running exhaust and pipes like the V8.
I can buy an aftermarket dual exhaust and slap it on my car and make it sound as though I have a lil something more than the average Max out there and still be just the average Max.

Nice Kill, thrasher, I'm certain it was a V8 in your case because you are right a V6 wouldn't have been that close to you, that's like saying a V6 Mustang would've been that close to a Max and we all know that that just ain't happening.

As a previos owner of a 2000 Trans Am...I would def say it was a V8.....no aftermarket exhaust on a v6 T/A sounds like an 8 cyl.I would say good kill....a good driver in a T/A is hard to beat in almost anything stock...even the new stangs with more hp can't beat em......good job..:owned:
