was the speaker shorted or open....? did you measure the speaker coil resistance .....? did you use the ground/frame as a return ...? how did you connect to new speaker ? hack the connector at speaker,,,solder new lugs ,,or just tape wires to connections at new speaker..

all speakers not working? just the blown one ?
how many speakers in this vehicle ?

Are they very very weak? I had the same problem and it was the right back roof speaker. It was shorted to the frame..

the speakers used in these GM vehicles ,,,,and most likely many others are of the lowest quality,,,

the speakers should be replaced ,,,with a high quality type of the correct resistance...most GM vehicles are around 10ohms...

all my speakers are replaced and the sound is much better...
on some speakers the coil wire will break off because of not being manufactured correctly....

I was coming over here to say that I always thought my suburban, had it since it was born at a factory in Mexico, has a great sound system. And now that I've read your stuff... I am wondering if these speakers used in GM vehicles that your talking about, are the same as in mine? I have a 3/4 ton Chev diesel 2500 4X4 95. Just cant believe we are talking about the same sound systems, 14 years no problems.

speakers and the sound they produce is dependent on the quality of the constuction of materials...

if you listen to flat sound tunes,,,you may find your speakers will be fine..

then you have wide dynamic range audio that destorys these low end speakers..replacing them with high quality componets,,and then cranking up the volume you will see///or should I say hear the difference..

the oem speakers have printed on then made in mexico...
