Hi Everyone,

I am new to the diecast car modeling. I was wondering if you all could give me an opinion about which brand is better in terms of quality, Kyosho or Maisto?

I am about to buy my first model car and both these company's have the same model at 1:18 scale? I was curious to know which one has better quality in terms of workmanship and detailing.

Thank you all for a reply:)

Kyosho's street cars are better then the Maisto ones. But if you choose for a Race car it doesn't matter which brand you choose. I would take the cheapest in case of a racecar. What model are you planning to buy? Maybe I know it.

Kyosho is far better than Maisto.

Here is a little list in terms of quality.

1. Exoto: $100 - $180
2. CMC: $100 - $125
3. Minichamps: $70 - $125
4. Kyosho: $40 - $75
5. Autoart: $40 - $75
6. UT Models: $20 - $100 (this companys out of business but you can still find them)
7. Maisto: $10 - $20
8. Hotwheels: $20 - $30
9. Burago: $10 - $20

This is only my opinion, other opinions may vary. :)

I agree with your ranking. Exoto seems to be the cream of the crop for the most part (I do realize there are other lesser-known companies that make really high quality/very expensive models). Kyosho is also very good.

UT made excellent models - you can still find NIB/MIB verisons on eBay (I got lucky with several Ferraris this way). I think that UT became AutoArt (?) and AA makes excellent models too. I plan on getting a few of their race Vipers soon. Also I'm always looking for UT's excellent McLaren F1s (Harrod's, Mueller, FINA etc.) but they're so expensive most of the time (eBay).

I have found Maisto and HotWheels to be somewhat close in quality, i.e. pretty good for the price and most of the time BBurago is quite good.

Currently, I only collect 1:18 Ferraris and I would rank them UT>HotWheels>Maisto>BBurago. I've heard that Kyosho Ferraris are great, but I don't own any so I don't know. The final point I'd make is that HotWheels is really improving, but their earlier build quality was a little dodgy. I have a HW 575M that is excellent, but an F40 that is quite poor. Next one will be their 288 GTO - looking forward to comparing to my three BBurago 288 GTOs.

You cannot have too many Ferraris :D

That's a nice collection.

Here's what I'm getting next. Even though it's not exactly like the real Pilot LM, it's pretty cool:

Well I think so anyway:)

I know I'm late on this but based on the two choices you gave, I would go with Maisto over Kyosho. But this choice really depends on the car you are looking for specifically. So maybe if you gave us an idea of what car to give a comparison, I would give you a more official choice.:D

maisto has a bigger selection ( lie burago ) but not at much detail then kyosho. kyosho is more expensive, but limited selection!
