97 s10 2.2L with 5spd trans. I can't get this motor to start after timing gear/chain went. have good fuel pressure and spark at plugs. Before i start replaceing ignition components and sensors, this guy i know wrecked his 95 s10 which had a rebuilt motor with 20k. Offered it to me cheap so i'm wondering if I swap motors- 1) will all sensors fit the 97's wireing harness 2) will i need to use the 95's ecm and 3) if I did use the 95's wireing harness, computer, and motor. will whatever problems i was having stay with the old motor.

If both motors are 2.2's they will interchange fine although you may have to swap some of the 97 sensors over to the newer or rebuilt engine. Also it's possible the intakes may need to be swapped over if they appear to be different but if they both have the same part number you will be ok.
You will not need to use the 95's ecm as you will reuse your old sensors so everything will plug in like there suppose to.
how many miles are on the 97?
