I would like to share something with every one. I was chasing codes on my 1994 S10 Blazer vin w 4.3 vortec pouring over wiring and replacing one part after another, nothing happened but me getting raging mad. So I went out and bout a wrecked vehicle for parts. I had decided to swap engines, I made sure the on im putting runs, and it does so like a kitten.
So i started to pull out the ening im going to replce, and decided to pull off both intakes... I found some one had re used the old head gaskets, lower intake gaskets and didnt even bother putting on any valve cover gaskets. Even though i dont know who did this to save your self some, time and maybe even money please do not re-use any old gasket doing so usually results in labor intensive repair and possibly ruining a good engine. th bad thing no one should ever have to type or say that.....:disappoin

This should be in the OT 'Stress Relief' section.
BTW I bought a car (455 Olds V8) off a 'friend' of mine...... after a few hundred miles, it poured coolant out the back of the engine.
I found out he installed the intake manifold using ONLY RTV gasket goo .... no real gasket at all. He did this because he was too CHEAP to buy a $20 gasket set......
BTW that friend is also a member here at AF. I should use my mod powers and change his name to "Captain Silicone"

Since almost every (if not every) tube of RTV says right on it that it's not intended for constant exposure to gasoline, he's even more inept than you may think when first reading that. The old Oldsmobile V-8's used a metal valley pan type intake gasket, and you have to either spray or brush the mating surfaces with hi-tack (not RTV) for it to seal properly.
