ok, my buddy has a 91 yj with a fuel injected inline 6 motor that has been nothing but a fountain of oil, i mean it runs great, doesnt stall, you wouldnt even notice it had a leak if it wasnt for the smell of burning oil and when you pop the hood and its like a chocolate cake, a guy he went to said, (and i will put it in medical terms) the engine is hemmoraging, he said you can delay the bleeding but its goin to go eventually, but i have heard about the yj's doin this so i was thinking it might be a seal of some sort. if anybody has some input i would greatly appreciate it.

Best thing to do is get some engine degreaser and get the engine as clean as possible, then you should be able to tell where all it is leaking from.

Is it a fountain or a pooling of oil? Where is it coming from....have you had any luck finding the source? I'd think valve cover gasket as a first guess.

Sometimes if the PCV valve goes bad that happens. The PCV stands for positive crankcase ventalation. It sucks the vapor out of the crankcase and also keeps the engine oil from blowing out all over. Unloosen it and start the truck and put your thumb over it, t should be sucking quite a bit, if not, buy one for a couple of bucks and replace it.

Now Im not a mechanic but do a little tinkering and found this same problem with my 89 YJ.
Actually I found two problems. First the oil filler cap comes with a large rubber washer that sits between the valve cover and filler cap. mine was completey gone and oil was getting out and covering the whole motor. Second was the blow line that goes from the valve cover to the air cleaner housing, this was very loose and had blow by and this to was getting oil every where.
For undr 10 bucks I got a new hose and filler cap (with rubber washer) and the problen is now gone.. hope this helps
