1990 Lincoln stalling on slow right hand turns + other problems

I have a 90 Lincoln that has the following problems-

-At a cold start up, unless I give it gas right after it cranks, the car will stall. After it runs for awhile it is fine.

-When making slow right hand turns, or in reverse with the wheel all the way to the right, the car stalls. I'm talking at idling speeds. If I give it gas, again, its fine, but it does it with a hot or cold engine.

-I replaced the alternator/power steering belt. It ran the same only now the seatbelt/battery warning lights very dimly flicker and go away between 15-28MPH and flicker again above 28.

-I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel vapor line, spark plugs, oil, antifreeze and battery.

Could this be a fuel pump problem or an alternator problem? Please help

I would have the alt checked. Also, take the panel off below the steering wheel, tehn turn the wheel and see if the steering shaft is pulling the starter switch wires out of socket. i had this problem with a topaz I once owned. I would also get the fuel pressure checked.

What kind of belt and tensioner does your vehicle have. I would think since the problem with the battery light coming on right after changing the belt the tension might not be tight enough.

I would say that it might be the 5.0. Which has a serpentine belt. I would check the tension of the belt.

I could be mistaken, but I think I don't have an automatic belt tensioner, as i had to pull back on the alternator to adjust the tension when I installed the belt. I went to Car Quest and they looked at me funny when I asked for a belt tension gauge a couple days ago (even though my shop manual says such a device exists). Any suggestions on what kind of gauge I should get?

I found out today that I have to get the rear brakes done now too. I lost brake pressure on the way to do shopping at Sears (pedal hit the floor) so I had them do the 15 dollar evaluation while I was there. Of course, they wanted too damn much and didn't even have the parts there. I need all new rear brakes and hardware plus new drums (the one drum is crumbling from rust) and both self adjusters need to be replaced. Any suggestions on what I should do/what brand of parts I should get?

Rear drum brakes can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing. Best to call someone more experienced if possible. As far as the belt goes, I never heard of such a gauge either.. Do you have more than one belt? Did you pry the alt when tightening the the bolt to put tension on the belt? Double check your work.

there are two bolts that hold the alternator in place, one at the top and one at the bottom. i loosened them to move the alternator toward the distributor so i could get the old belt off and put the new belt on. i then moved the alternator back to where it had been, which is pretty tight. I have two belts and one is for the alternator, power steering and cooling fan.
