I took mine apart when I installed a set of "Jimmy Jammers" it was basically a shield to prevent someone from prying the lock open with a screwdriver. They were easy to remove & replace maybe open the other side as a reference. Last week when I changed my door lock motor on my rear door I remember there were two 10mm bolts and the rod that would release the mechanism it was easily taken in or out without any issues are your rods possible bent? I think if you open it and take a look at the other side you may get a better idea.
