2001 Chev.Impala is making a creaking sound while I'm making turns.
The creaking sound is like going up steps in a very old house and the steps/stairs make a creaking sound. Do you think this problem is related to the steering column? Could I need steerling fluid? When I drive in a straight path and do not make any turns toward the right/left I do not hear this creaking noise. It is very difficult to put into words the sound I hear. I feel that creaking may best describe the sound. Have your ever heard of a 2001 Chev.Impala having any problems realting to the steering column? I'm getting my car inspected on Monday. I'm hoping I can get some advice before I see my mechanic. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

The intermediate steering shaft was another problem area. Usually lubing it will make the problem go away. In addition, worn suspension bushings could be the cause, hard to diagnose without being there. I know the sound you are talking about though, good description.
Engine cradle cracking has been a problem, there is a service bulletin out to fix it. Also have the torque of the cradle bolts checked, it is common for them to be a little loose after a few years.
Low power steering fluid will usually cause a moaning sound, not a creak.
