Iraqi says he threw shoes at Bush to restore pride

BAGHDAD (AP) - The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at George W. Bush did not apologize as his trial began Thursday, and instead struck a defiant tone—telling the judges he wanted to hit back at the humiliation Iraq had suffered at U.S. hands.
It was Muntadhar al-Zeidi's first public appearance since he was arrested in mid-December for hurling shoes at Bush during a joint news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The act turned the obscure 30-year-old reporter into a cult hero throughout much of the Middle East.

I wonder how well this idiot would have fared if he threw his shoe at Sadaam or Obama Bin Laden.

This reminds me of one of the lines in the movie Full Metal Jacket where the Marine Colonel explained that we were in 'Nam for their or our freedom and in every Vietnamese there is an American inside them just waiting to come out. :screwy:

These people don't know what freedom or democracy is or could care less. "Dumb bastards". We should have let the country rot under Saddam Hussein and not wasted a single drop of American blood on them.

At the time, I thought the same thing.

If that sorry looney tunes was such a threat, we should have let his neighbors deal with him, or let Europe worry about it. They're much closer and far easier for him to mess with.

Toss a couple of shoes. Yeah, that really upsets me. SIMPLE dumb bastards is more like it. They'll still be killing each other long after we're all dead and buried.

And they don't care about democracy and they don't need it.

They were killing each other hundreds of years ago for the same religious differences. You can not force democracy on those who could care less about it. We could rebuild everything that was destroyed & give them 10-trillion dollars and the will go back to a dictatorship! Once a camel jock, always a camel jock!

Yep, that's what Bob said. At least quote him properly

Powell was right. We broke it, we bought it. :bananadie

Simple fact is...If the idiot threw his shoes at Sadaam...he'd be dead already. If you think it's not better there now, you're as dumb as they are. That's all I'm saying. I'm not making any comments on forcing anything on them. They should be thankful not dumasses.

More like thousands of years ago.

I agree heartily that all countries should be able to choose their own governments. But I also agree that democracy is among the better forms of government (sans the corruption of course)

Under Saddam, the press conference wouldn't even have happened in the first place so the question of what would have happened to that guy is moot.

What exactly IS his crime? He threw shoes at a foreign dignitary. I guess it could be called assault?

Assault with a stinky weapon.

I don't care what jurisdiction you live in in the U.S. That could easily be an assault charge and land you in jail with the crybabies we have in our country.

Another issue is why the U.S. Secret Service let it happen or they reacted too late. :twak:

The Iraqis are fairly progressive and modernized as are their moderate Arab neighbors. I don't recall seeing that many camels being used over there. They prefer driving the American style big cars and Mercedes for transportation. :grinyes:

I just read an article recently and they were saying how the Taliban gets their ideas and laws from a tribal group called the Pashtuns and it simply says that these guys go back thousands of years following a very strict code of women containment and very strong military views, hence the Taliban, their views are just about the same. We nor will any other government be able to fully rid the Taliban, their like cockroaches, you kill 100 and 1000 come back, their a bunch of stubborn jackasses and nothing is going to change the way they think, especially a "bunch of Americans" whaddya we know right? Let them kill themselves off till theirs none left.. F*ck em!!

Democracy is not the better form of government. Where did you get that crazy idea from? :)

Baghdad does not need democracy. Plain and simple. They had a perfect form of government prior to the British occupation (you know, the ones who split up middle east and gave us our country names?) History folks. Read it. Who destroyed the middle east? The Mongols and then the British.

Saddam's government was never a perfect form of government nor did I ever agree with his government or any Arab countries government.

First of all... "THEY ARE"
Secondly... There is an urban myth that if you drop the big bomb the cock roaches will still be there. I don't care. Roaches would be an improvement.

There is a way to correct the situation over there. It just isn't politically correct. Wipe the bastards out. End of problem.

It's funny, alot of people wanted us to go muscle our military strength after 9/11 but now it seems people think we're abusing the reason why we're over there. We killed enough of them, we should just be able to pull out and let them kill each other off.

Probably not. Since they use the metric system horsepower is rated as PS. Yes, you can use your imagination on this.

Thanks or no thanks to our fine British friends that screwed the region up way before we got there. <--- Said sarcastically.

A LOT of people feel the same way about Americans...makes you look just like "them". Terrorists, that is:2cents:

That is a pretty broad way to look at it. While I agree with the fact that terrorist say the same thing, we must first take a look at a few things.

1) There are some Americans that should be wiped out. (ie. rapist, child predators, murderers, highly corrupt politicians, etc.).

2) The vast majority of Americans aren NOT wiping eachother out with wild warfare, torture, etc.

3) America is not attacking nations that practice any form of equality.

While it your quote sounds very poetic, it does not not take in any big picture. Now I'm just going out on a limb here, but I am guessing the people that say they want us wiped off the face of the Earth are not the people who are unable to speak publicly or those who benefit from it in a country where freedom of speech amongst countless other freedom barracades exist?

Let me form an example for you if that did not work. :)

A terrorist organization commutes over a network that allows no free speech, nor any speech outside of government rule or regulation on a network that says they want the US to perish. Would you take that in as the norm? I would hope not because I would imagine that the rest of nation (the MAJORITY) would love to speak out how they want their government to be wiped clean, but don't have the chance to. So what I am saying is that he actually has the freedom to post what he just did about, "wiping the bastards out," where a lot of the world (who are not terrorist in the least) don't even have an opportunity to say so. So therefore, aren't you just comparing anything that matches what we say to what is said on a completely censored network?

A LOT of people feel the same way about Americans .........................

If you mean Islamist nations, yeah, I'd agree with that. That's a sizable portion of the world's population.

Some would define our actions in Iraq as terrorism, but I think some of us here have already said we thought we should have just let them continue under Sad-man.

As always, YMMV.

Thanks or no thanks to our fine British friends that screwed the region up way before we got there.

There is probably no need for sarcasm here.
It is a well known tactic for Britain to create feuds between the peoples of a country as part of their tactics during the Empire years. Even if it was not 100 5 the case with the countries being discussed here, it certainly was with many others.

You know it really doesn't make any difference. We can talk about it all day long until we turn blue in the face.

The bottom line is we are there to stay. Although we will have troops pull out of Iraq over the next few years at least 50,000 will be left there to help the Iraqis. El Presidente Obama has made that clear.

As for Afghanistan the troop levels will be increased significantly to fight the war on terror that many nations agreed to. It is a joint NATO effort. However, I do wish our so called allies would send more troops versus the U.S. It is a shame we have to spill more of our blood. :crying:

Letting the Taliban succeed would be a big mistake and a threat to the security of all countries in the region not just westernized countries that give a rats ass about it. Of course unless you like the idea of subjugating women, having multiple wives and going back in time. I don't think camels or horses are too comfortable to ride. :grinno: Most Americans' rear ends are too big to fit on them anyways.

BTW - I forgot to add no alcohol to the above!!!!!

Not only that but his actions disrespected the troops we have over there especially the ones that have died (giving the ultimate sacrifice) for their liberties and the families in the U.S. Under Saddam or under typical Islamic Shariah law he would have had a hand cut off or even beheaded. That type of punishment goes on every day in the Middle East under their so called system of justice but they tend to forget about it.
