my 1999 chevy suburban had leaves and pine straw in the duct between the blower motor and the heater core... i removed as much as I can get from the blower motor opening (after removing the blower motor, of course). How could this have gotten in there? Where is the outside air intake for the HVAC?
I had a bunch of stuff clogging up the plastic vent at the bottom of the windshield on the outside - is the intake under there? I noticed a plastic intake on each side of the engine compartment going into the firewall and wrapping back around to open toward the door, but those are pretty small and have a foam filter on the end.. please help!!!

I'm not sure how to do this exactly on your vehicle but I would remove the air input screen at the bottom of the windshield..need to remove wiper arms and then washout all of this mess...replacement of the screen may be necessary...
your evaporator/heater core must be slimed up as well...happy cleaning...
don't park under trees that have a lot of debris falling...

If it's anything like my '95, I found leaves and stuff in almost all the nooks of this truck. This includes the air intake resonator, the air filter, in between the radiator and A/C condenser, under the A/C intake below the windshield, and in the evaporator box after the blower.
The black windshield cowling hides the A/C intake but it's not a straight shot. It is located on the passenger side and is hidden under sheetmetal so that debris can't fall straight in. Nonetheless, large-sized crap gets in there...I have no clue how. I'm still scratching my head as to how a handful of acorns got into the air intake! I used a wet/dry vac with a long, narrow attachement to get in there.
