The woman was decapitated ---- with a kitchen knife.

http://www.wsls.com/sls/news/local/new_river_valley/article/virginia_tech_murder_graduate_student_decapitated/25622/

.........
When the first officer arrived, Chief Flinchum says the officer found both the victim Yang, and Zhu. The officer noticed Zhu had blood on his clothes, and Yang had been decapitated. Flinchum described it as a “gruesome scene.“

Chief Flinchum told reporters that to the best of his knowledge, no one intervened during the attack, and there were approximately seven witnesses.
............................... So many thoughts, too few words. It does appear that 7 people were there and watched it happen. I can't second guess the incident, since I wasn't there, but couldn't somebody throw a damn chair or something? Anything?

Another sad tragedy. :shakehead

I'm not surprised no one intervened. ABC's 20/20 aired a good story yesterday on why people have delayed reactions or are insensitive to trauma and crime situations.

At least in this situation the perp did not use a firearm like the previous Asian - Korean whacko in 2007 so obviously this won't be a gun control issue. It will be interesting to see what the motive was.

I understand it's some crazy guy with a knife, but someone should have done something. Seven against one or five against one or even three against one would have been able to do something.

I don't think we can understand it. Seeing something like that right in front of me would certainly cause me to pause for a moment to catch my bearings, but I'd like to think I would have done something.

The place was full of chairs, for crying out loud. Just THROW one if you don't want to get within slashing range. It might have slowed him down if it didn't stop him. :dunno:

Better hide your kitchen knives. They'll be on the ban list pretty soon. :runaround:

Crazy to say the least. :screwy:

Here is some more detail. When the police finally arrived the killer was holding her head in his hand. Pretty gruesome.

Source: Sky News

The officer on the scene reported finding 25-year-old Haiyang holding her head in his hand, according to a police affidavit.

He has been charged with first-degree murder.

On January 7, he wrote on a Chinese-language blog he had been so frustrated over stock losses and other problems that he thought "only of killing someone or committing suicide".

I cannot believe people would just sit there and watch. While it would be very dramatic to see you have to do something!

 This wasn't exactly a "kitchen" knife but if knives were banned this wouldn't have happend to me lol:

Nice clean wound. Looks like a sharp blade. How many sutures?

Ouch! What happened Alex? That looks worse then when I was hit by some idiot driving a van on my street bike when I used to ride them. It messed up my right foot bad but it eventually healed fine.

Nonetheless it shows that knives are just as deadly or dehabilitating as firearms. :shakehead

20 inside the wound and 20 outside the wound. The blade I used is incredibly sharp. If you don't believe me, check out this video:

Edit: The way it happend was I was trying to deploy it by hitting a quillion on my leg (it then opens like a switchblade) but on accident deployed it on my arm before running it across my leg. Used a towel a a tournakit before being rushed to the hospital. I lost a lot of blood but was lucky enough to not need a blood transfusion.

Yeah this is about as crazy as things get. I'm freakin' out cuz I live right down the road from VT. I would like to get the heck outta here ASAP. Easier said than done. What the heck is wrong with some people these days? There are people who REALLY get under my skin, but good-night, what drives a person to cut another human being's head off? I wouldn't be able to do it. Don't want it to happen to me, why would I want to do it to somebody else? Whatever the case may be, I'm ready to move!
