My 04 Forester X needs to be idled up.

My Forester idles at 400 RPMs and needs to be idled up. I have attempted to pull it off by playing with the nuts on the throttle cable, but I still haven't managed to get the X to idle at 900 like I want. Any suggestions?

I haven't really done any mechanical work on my Forester, but I assume that there has got to be an idle adjustment screw somewhere. I can't begin to guess where it might be located, though. Best of luck to you!

Unfortunately, that's all I know also. I'm not sure where the screw is and I don't want to lean out my motor by turning the wrong one.

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body on it first? The idle doesn't usually go out of adjustment by itself.

No. I'm thinking it is the Idle Air Control sensor. The forester only has 50k miles, so I hope it doesn't have throttle body issues.

Tell you what... I'm guessing that it might need new sparks and/or a tune up. I just took my 05 in for the 60k service. The idle was really low and I didn't like it, but I didn't want to make any changes to it just yet. $860 later, the idle is fine... although my fuel economy is now in the crapper.

I replaced the idle air control sensor. It fixed the problem for an hour and then right back to low idle. What can I say?
I sold the Forester. Really cheap. No more problems though.
