Considering a cat-back

I'm considering having a cat-back installed on my '96 K2500 w/454. If I do, I'll be going with a dual in/dual out muffler, with the tips exiting under the bumper. The shop I'll have do it will fab up the system, let me hear it to make sure its not too loud/too tame, etc before welding it up.

They tell me I should see an improvement in mileage, but not much of an increase in power - true/false??

I don't really want to lay out $400+ just to get a nice rumble.

Thanks!!!
Jeff

you will not see any MPG improvement...
If you tow very large loads you may notice more power....and the engine will run cooler...

if you do not do heavy hauling this will not do anything..as your vehicle had when built a good exhaust match..

Thanks for the info!
I currently pull a 4300lb boat, but am looking at larger boats in the7000-8000lb range. Looks like it may be beneficial to have, but I may wait on it.

Your rig as optioned should easily tow 8k with weight-dist hitch, brake controller, and HD trailering options.

Assuming you have the stock OEM muffler now.... No just changing to a new muffler will not add any real power. Might make it sound good. I have a magnaflow dual in dual out.... sounds good under acceleration....not so loud at cruise speed... 92K1500 5.7..
