Hi guys! I'm new to this site bt needed some info on my baby! I have a 1994 firebird formula. Has a 383 stroker with lots of extras but the motor install was done poorly from the seller i got it from. I was having problems with the car. When i punched the peddle the car seems to studder almost as if it was miss firing. I took it to a shop ( my brothers shop). he is not a machanic but is learning from the machanic there. Anyways I noticed this problem most when i added octane boost to the fuel. We thought maybe there was a clog in the lines or fuel filter. I changed the fuel filter, o2 senors pcv valve and added a 160 thermastat rather then the 180 that was in. Still had this problem occuring. We were going to do a BG flush but decided to put a lucas gas treatment instead. Before my brother started the car he cleaned the throttle body with 3m carb clean. To me it seemed he used way to much. keep in mind the car was not running when he was spraying i dont know if that matters or not? After using almost an entire can i started my engine. It made a nasty clonking sound as around the manifold area as if it blew a rod. Was blowing so much white smoke and i mean alot to where you could not see my car. After about a min of running you could see fluid leaving the exsaust. The freaking head gasket blew. Was this a result of of the carb clean? When he changed the thermastat he did it correctly. He bled both vavles but i know if it was done wrong it could result in blown headgasket but the temp stayed fine so i dont think it was that. The real manchanic there said the headers were seeping already and when i added the octane boost it helped blow them. personally i think it was a cover up of my brothers mistake and think it blew because of him but he didnt want to take responsablity. Did he blow them? Anyways I had no choice but to pay them for the repair which took 2 months by the way. Horriable shop they were. I bought a lt1 trickflow kit, New plugs&wires, Had to have the heads milled 10,000 because they warped also had to have a jacket sleeve repaired because something bounced into the piston i think it was a peice from the sprkplug not sure but u could clearly see the scracting on the piston head. Had to add a lt1 stud kit for the heads because like i said it was poorly done by the original owner who kept the original bolts which one of them wasnt even tighented down according to the machanic. Anyways this repair cost me alot. about 2,300 in parts and they tried to clean me up on the labor at 1200. I only paid them 700 and took the car for the fact was i gave them a month to have the repair done why i was out of town and they didnt start tearing it apart till 2 days before it was suppose to be done. Telling me the heads probly didnt warp but my uncle whos been a machanic for 25 years told me you always get them milled when a gasket blows no matter what pr it will jus happen again shortly down the road. anyways the car finally got finshed. The day I drove the cra off the lot That missfire or studder I said that happend and the whole reason I broght the car in happend again. I was like WTF. Turns out it was my alternator going bad and it did go. So i had to get a new battery and alternator. WAs this the orignal problem? I think it was and my dumbass brother blew my car up in his shop and his boss and the machanic coverd it up so they did have to pay fr the repair! Since i dont have alot of knowledge on cars they knew they could get away with it. So I replaced The battery and alternator then a day later my fuel pump goes out! this all cannot be a coincidence. My fuel lines were opend and exsposed to everything in there shop for a month. is it possiable that all that hop dust and crap got into the lines and caused failure to the pump? I just feel I got screwed at my own brothers shop and got taken for a jackass. Can someone give me some info please i would love to get some truth or fact here. Thank you
