I have a 1998 Subaru Forester with 140,000 miles on it. Just today I ran into a big problem and I need help from you all.
I have noticed some oil droplets under the car at the parking lot at work over the last week. I did not know if it was fresh or old from other cars. I figured I would check my oil level because my valve cover gaskets are leaky and have been leaking.
Long story short I was going to check it today and just before I got home I was turning into my street and the car almost stalled out. It was strange. I gave more gas and was ok for a second and it almost stalled out again. I limped to the parking space near my apartment and turned it off.
I checked oil and it was super low. I added about 1.5 quarts and now I am just above the normal level. I looked under the car and there is oil all over the oil pan so I definitely have a leak but I am not sure where it is really coming from.
Well I started the car back up and it seems fine in park. So I got in to drive around the apt complex. What I found was it was ok until I got to right around 3,000 RPM. When I got near that RPM the car lost basically all power (as if it stalled) and right before the tack got to zero the car would come back and stay on. However as soon as the RPMs got close to 3,000 again it would lose all power again. I also noticed when taking turns it also seemed to lose power. Funny thing is I revved the engine while in park and there is no issue (Can get to 4,000 plus no loss of power). So it seems this is only occurring when the car is in drive and engine is under load.
I have no idea what this could be and if the low oil is related to this issue or if it is something completely different. Looking for help and suggestions on what this could possibly be and what I can try to fix it.

I'm wondering if there's not a bad gasket somewhere. It would be especially bad under load, which is what you're experiencing.
