Transmission bell housing leak

I have an 08 Suburban with 18,000 miles on it. I took it in for an oil change (to a reputable dealer) and was told I have a transmission bell housing leak. I asked to see and sure enough, the bottom of the transmission bell housing was wet with transmission fluid which also covered the oil filter. We confirmed it was trans fluid which was down two lines on the dip stick.

I have no spots on my garage floor at all so I am thinking this problem just developed. I just got back from a 2,000 mile trip with it from Michigan to North Carolina and back over 3 days and it ran just fine. The vehicle seemingly still runs just fine with no noises or other issues with the transmission beyond the fluid loss.

It is still under warranty so I will have the dealer fix it. But I am just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem and what was the fix etc. Any thou:2cents: ghts or help are appreciated.

you along with many other new GM suv/truck owners have had many transmission issues...your problem may be a seal and the other problem would be a casting defect ...

since this is under warrantee you must return to the dealer and keep all copies of the work performed ...this may be needed when/if there is a future legal/NHTSA action..

there is a seal that fits around the torque convertor where it slides into the trans and there is a pump seal but usually if the pump seal goes out there is a major leak.

Thanks guys. How intense would this job be? I moved to another part of Michigan since I bought the vehicle and I am wondering if a dealer would not be interested in doing this type of warranty work. But given this economy I would be surprised if they wouldn't want to do it. This is a small local farm community dealer.
