Okay, here's the problem. I just bought a 1990 1500 2wd from it's second owner. The original trans took a dump at 189000 miles and was replaced by a 700R4 from a different vehicle, an unknown vehicle at that. The linkage is off quite a bit from the steering column as far as gear indications, and the speed-o doesn't work. I'm pretty sure the Burb has an electric speedometer? The transmission has the port for the manual cable. My question, how to fix the speed-o and get the gear selection to work correctly as my wife want's to drive my truck and I won't let her until it's "lead foot" proof. Any help would be much appreciated.

Shift linkage has a adjustment.
On speedometer take everything off of old transmission and transfer it to new one.

Old transmision was an electric speed-o the one in now is a mechanical speed-o. Old transmission is gone.

The sensor ring for the vss will have to be installed on the output shaft on the transmission. The tail housing will have to be removed to remove plastic gear and press on the steel sensor ring, and reinstall the housing and install new vss sensor for speedometer operation.

Okay, found an adapter for mechanical to electric Vehicle speed sensors. It's $100-130, in case anybody is interested. It fits where the cable would normally fit and plugs direct into the VSS harness.
