Multiple Aftermarket probs.

I own a '97 Maxima GXE and recently have came along a couple of problems. One: i recently purchased reverse indiglo gauges but found out it was designed for the SE. On my kilometer and rpm gauges, i have 2 mini-screws that hold in the gauge. The kit comes with only one in a different spot. I've used double sided scotch tape and hooked it up, but now my needles are all wacked. Is there any other way to go about this? Can i punch screws directly into the gauges? arg.


problem 2: i've always had this...since i've had the car. I've always had a squeaky rear brake problem. Everytime i change the brake, it goes away, and comes back again...its not the brake pad. I've learned to deal w/it and pumped up my system instead. Anyone help me?

I can't help you with the gauge faces but as far as the rear brakes go.....

Take the whole brake assembly apart. Clean everything including the clips. Remove them from the brake assembly when you do this to ensure you start off fresh. Regrease the guide pins that the caliper foats on and get a new shim kit from Nissan. Put it all back together correctly. Spray the shims with some anti squeal before you put them on the pads too and bleed the brake system. Better yet, flush your old fluid out with new fluid. Your brake system will feel much firmer with new fluid.

That should quiet things down.

are you using non-nissan pads and/or calipers? i had the same problem. the guy at nisan told me that if you use non nissan pads and shims with a nissan caliper the shims'll come loose and the pads'll vibrate back and forth causeing the pads to squeal. i brought my car to a local car repair shop and they did a whole new (non nissan) caliper/rotor/pad assembly and $400 later and about 2 hours after the anti squeak spray wore off the brakes still screeched(not to mention my e-brake began to fail on me). i brought it to the nissan place and they fixed it in an hour and it hasn't given me any problems since. this was all before i had access to an impact gun. if you can, do it youself, it's not that hard

mine used to squeak really bad too, but all i had to do was wash the break dust off the pads/rotors every few days and it would stop
