light bulb under the hood

Can anyone please provide me with a picture or type number of the light bulb under the hood? The owners manual just says '10 watt' but evidently a standard 10 watt tube bulb doesn't fit...

Does it look like this?

If so, it is a 1003

Unfortunately, there wasn't a bulb in it when I got the car.
It looks like it needs some kind of tube light like this:

The standard 10w tube light is too small.

Hmm. Your profile says your PA is a '91 and that's supposed to be the bulb. The '92 used a 561, and here's a photo of one:

I couldn't find a 561 to try, but I see it is about the same length as the other bulb which seems a bit too short.

Here is a picture of the light with a 10w tube bulb in it for comparison, it looks like it fits but this is an illusion, the tiniest movement will make it fall out.

The 561 will hook onto the end terminals and not fall out.

I got a new 561 bulb, but it still doesn't work. When and how does this light go on, I don't see a switch as with the trunk light?

Should be a mercury switch in the base of the light- you can't see it- and oh- BY THE WAY turn on your parking lights- Buicks tend to think you only need the light when the lights are on....and the hood is up...as I recall...

Thanks for your reply, I tried it with the parking lights on but it still doesn't work. I take it the problem would likely be this mercury switch then?

Do you have power (12v) to the mercury switch?
