as most of you know, I'm currently bikeless due to marrying a (insert insult here).

My dad just sold his 2005 Z750 and bought a 2008 M50 Boulevard (aka Intruder 800, i think), an 805cc cruiser.

so.

I get to ride a cruiser to see if i like it. Settle down the Rich, i know your starting to squirm in your seat.

I was hoping to buy a new bike come next year. But whats a guy to do with cash in his pocket and a decision to be made.

GSXR750: personal favourite due to a 96 model i had before.
GSXR1000: pure bragging rights and too much power for me (being 100%honest)
Ducati 1098 (standard or "s" model) always wanted a Ducati. arrrggghhh drooool.
CBR1000R replace what i sold with possibly the best bike right now.

As i've mentioned before, I love the VRSCDX Nightrod Special.


but now we have the VRSCF-V-rod Muscle..............

so my choice is: buy a sports bike. ride what i like and possibly lose my licence and the misses will probalby never get on the back because she is 6' tall
or go to the dark side and eat their cookies. taste the power cruiser.
The misses has given me permission to buy the harley now! She will even kick in towards it!

So Rich now you can get excited because i'm seriously leaning toward the V-rod. A local dealer has a ride day on the 22 november so i'm off to taste the cookies!

looking at re-sale, the honda holds higher than the gixers but the harley still sells for new prices even 5 years later!?!?!?!

I went with my Dad to pick up his new Suzuki M50 on saturday and started looking at the new Gixer 1000, Gixer 750 and '07 and '08 blades.
During the week i went to 2 harley dealers to check out the harleys.


that whole economic shit hole is the States at the moment has screwed everything up. The price of bikes in the next shipment goes up 30%!!!!!!!

So if i want a harley, i need to buy it now but i can't quite afford it and can't find the bike i want in the colour i want!

One of our biggest auto lenders has pulled out of auto finance so the dealers are up shit creek if they owe money (Mazda reportedly owes about 9 million which they need to pay back in 60 days)


I found an '07 Blade brand new for $15000 ride away (same deal as my last one) which i can afford right now! '08's are $20,000 on road.

That is an ancient sales pitch. 'Buy now because prices are going way up soon!!'

Don't listen to them, hold onto your money for a while longer. Here's why:

The financial crisis means that Harley prices are at least going to hold steady, but are more likely to come down in a while.

The economic uncertainty (and specifically the lack of credit financing) means that Americans are going to buy far fewer unnecessary luxury products for many months to come. Harleys are smack in the middle of this cut in spending. Fewer Harleys being sold means much better deals for people who have cash in hand for a purchase.

What DOES make sense for you is the $US to $AUS exchange rate. As seen here, (http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=AUD&to=USD&submit=Convert) the Australian dollar has sunk by 30% relative to the US dollar. This dip is produced by the tremendous drop in mining commodities values, since mining export values greatly affect the exchange rates. This makes all imports from the US more expensive.

IMO you need to wait a few months until the dollar rebounds a bit, which it eventually will. By that time, Harley will probably be more desperate for sales and will offer your dealer greater incentives. Hang on to your money until the dollar rebounds, then you can pretty much name your price.

I'm telling you that you won't be happy on the Vrod - it's HEAVY and thus SLOW. My SV has half the engine and twice the low-end torque. Plus, it hurts to ride on for any length of time - you HAVE to slouch to ride it... and I was nearly unable to walk after an hour's ride on it. I know you're a tall bloke, and I'm thinking you'll be in the same boat I was.

As for tall bitches not riding on back, tell her she's a pussy. If I can crawl my 34" inseam up on the back of an R1 for a few hours, she can get her ass on the back of any other sportbike. ;)

i know what your saying about the bullshit line. BUT we are already seeing things go up! TV's and electrical goods have risen. They have dropped our interest rates to try to boost sales in stores.


As for the bike, Kel and I had a chat last night. given the time frame she doesn't think she'll be getting on the back anytime soon. so she said "to get what i want and it may as well be a sports bike while i'm still young enough to ride one".

i think i'll watch the market and go have a better look at the 750.
