Fujimi Ferrari 126C2 F1

My latest completed model. It's Fujimi's Ferrari 126c2. I built the kit out of the box with the exception of the plug wires and seatbelts, those were added extra.

Overall, I think this is a great kit with some very nice detail... and a few short comings too. The side radiators didn't fit well between the monocoque and the chassis wall. The connection from the air intake to the turbos sits too high and interfered with the body sitting flush on the chassis.

The design of the body and the portion of the body that surrounds the front suspension, if assembled according to the instructions, would require the kit to be built curbside. However, I attached the piece and then cut away the middle portion of the bottom section which makes everything look correct but allows me to lift the body off or place the body on at any time.

I painted the body with Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red and Tamiya Clear then polished. The kit decals had a dull (not shiney) finish in my kit so I polished them with The Treatment Model Car Wax while they were still on the paper then applied in the usual method. This worked fine in this instance because none of the decals require setting solution to make them conform to any curved surfaces.

The monocoque was painted with Krylon Dull Aluminum then rubbed out with a product called Rub-n-Buff. It's a waxy silver colored paste for stenciling and can be found at most craft stores. Apply it like you would a wax and continue to rub it in until it shines like metal. The wheels were done the same way. The wing was stripped of the chrome plating and repainted with SpazStix Chrome to give it more of a polished aluminum look, like the real car.

The engine was done with various shades of aluminum, silverleaf and metalizers then weathered a little with Tamiya's Oil, burnt red and burnt blue weathering set.

Of course after taking the pictures I noticed a few glaring mistakes like forgetting to paint the tail light with clear red.... :banghead:

Thanks for looking...

Lovely build

Doesn't look any the worse for being an OOB build - in fact, TBH, it doesn't look OOB!

(PS the tail light doesn't glare at all ;) )

Sublime model! I wouldn't have called it OOB given the detail you put into it!

Thanks Guys,

...one more of these to go, then the 126ck Canada GP 1981 version with rain tires, then the Tamiya 312t3 and someday the recently announce Hasegawa 312T2, all together should make a nice little collection of mid-vintage Ferrari F1 cars.

Hi Eric, I know this thread is a bit old but I am in desperate need of a set of front tires for the 1/12 Protar/Revell 126 c2 Kit, I have a mint kit missing them and none of the Tamiya tires seem like they will work?? Any Help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks Chris Hale

Hi Chris, unfortunately all my 126 variant kits are in 1/20 scale. I don't have any of the Protar/Revell kits in 1/12. Sorry, I'm unable to help you.
