Intermittent Turn Signal Operation 1972 Chevelle w/air, auto trans 307

Hello all:

Happens on both left and right. Works fine, or slow, blinks once and stops with dash lamp on. Doesn't blink at all. Engine revs don't affect it. Replaced flasher, no change. Turn signal assembly on collum. any advice greatly apprieciated! Thanks in advance.

You have 2 flashers on your car, the one on the fuse block is for your turn signals, the other under the dash is your hazard flasher. Make sure you changed the one on the fuse block.

I think your problem is either a bad bulb or a dirty signal bulb socket. More than likely a bad bulb. Buy a pack of at least 2, they're good to have around. Pull each one and look at it, bad ones will be cloudy or have a broken filament in it. Clean out any funky grease in the sockets too. I doubt the problem is in your column, but you could have a shorted wire in the harness that comes down from the switch.

Well, it turned out the problem was the regulator, the alternator, or both. I replaced them both as well as a new modern fan belt. Turned the idle up a bit and the turn signals work fine now. I am inclined to take your suggestion and replace the turn signal lamps as will. Much obliged!

While you have the lamp sockets out check for bad grounds they were a big problem. (corrosion) The grease was used to cut down on corrosion. There is usually a black wire grounded with a screw in the trunk and on the radiator support for the lights.

Just for the record:
On a Chevelle that statement is wrong.

The flasher on the fuse block is for the hazard lights.
The flasher for the turn signals is hanging by it's wiring - laying under the dash.
