01 burb ecm problems

Hi all, hope somebody can help. I changed the battery in my 01 suburban the other day. When I started it back up the dash was lit up like a christmas tree. The ABS and airbag lite were on , message center cycles between battery, low fuel, and security symbols. The fuel gauge and temperature meter are pegged low(that's why the low fuel flashes?), the xmission display has the letters but no square around what gear its in, seat belt guy stays on no matter seat belt position, e-brake indication does not work(comes on initially but not if brake is set). I thought maybe the ecm needed reprogrammed so I took it to the dealer and they can't even communicate with the computer, no diag. codes or anything. The truck runs fine mechanically, no starting problems, missing, or knocks. I'm leaning towards a new ecm. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

why did you replace battery ???? what did you do prior to changing the battery...????

Lets say you reversed charged the dead battery or you hooked the battery up backwards....it only takes a micro second...by by ECM...

Battery had not been holding a charge, would run fine then next morning the batt would be dead. Nothing left on or plugged in. It was over 5 yrs old anyway. When I hooked the new batt up I did neg 1st then positive. Thanks

the negative is ,,on installing a new battery installed last...

the negative on removing a battery is removed first....this is the approved safe way to handle battery replacement...

also if you shorted out the battery ,,,positve hit ground /frame for an instant a surge created could have wiped out the ECM or other electronic controls like maybe a bcm unit...

I have been reading up on some stuff, does the bcm control the dash cluster? The powertrain and engine electronics are fine, I think the ECM is ok, it the indications that are wrong. Also, thinking back I did do positive 1st when I hooked it back up. The mech at the dealer today said that if 1 of the units (BCM or ECM/PCM) are bad the diag computer will not communicate with any of the modules?!

A good factory trained tech should be able to check it out.
First step is check power and ground to all computers and diagnostic plug.
Then unplug all computers and start hookig them back up and see what one is giving the problem.
One dead shorted on can knock them all off line or knock out communcation.
If the truck starts and runs good the VCM is working.

Update...bought a new BCM, did nothing. Decided to deal with it and about a week later I notice I had fuel indication. Check everything else, it was back too. I essentially did nothing and it's been running for going on 3 weeks now. No glitches or anything. Sometimes you have to wonder?!?!?!?!?!
