Ode to the Fiero:

For Sale: Please make me an offer I can't refuse.

I would like to be a daily driver again. My current driver has had to purchase a four door !

I am looking for someone to keep loving me. My current keeper cannot hold me any longer.

February 25, 1983 that Pontiac gave a name to the Fiero, meaning "very proud" in Italian.

When the GT was introduced, 135 horses pushed along the 2.8 L V6. In 1985 the GT was a notchback. In 1986 when the fastback came along, the notchback GT turned into the SE.

When tested by Car & Driver, the Fiero hit 60 in 8.2 seconds, with a top speed of 119. Also in 1986, a Motor Trend columnist described the Fiero, "Here is a 2-seat, mid-engine vrump vrump machine that shouts 'we build excitement' at the top of its lungs."

In 1987, the only changes were the new fascias and a 12 gallon gas tank (up from 10.2 in previous years).

I am an 87 Pontiac Fiero GT. When I am all out I can practically fly. And let it be known, in my first years with this owner I pegged out my speedometer (120)! Acording to automotive journalists from my day, the five-speed manual-equipped Fiero GTs ran 0-60 in 7.9-8.1 seconds and dispatched the quarter mile in just over 16 seconds. Top speed was about 120 mph

Remember the Pretty Woman movie quote about the sports car? "It corners like its on rails!" Well that is how I make turns too.

I am America's only mid-engined sports car. When born I had all the ecoutrements:

Original equipment on this Fiero GT includes:
* Cruise Control,
* Air Conditioning,
* Power Windows,
* Power Locks,
* Adjustable Steering Wheel,
* Sun/Moon Roof,
* Tilt Wheel,
* AM/FM cassette with factory base amplifier,
* Rear Window Defrost,
* Remote Trunk Release,
* Intermittent Wipers,
* Power Side Mirrors,
* Allow Wheels,
* Factory fiberglass and ABS body panel,
* Steel Internal Reinforcement Girder beams

I only have had Non Smoker Owners and have kept my Original Fiero Owner Manual and come with a Haynes Manual for reference!

I’ve averaged 25/35 miles to the gallon and 19 mpg locally around town depending upon the last time I had a tune up.

I am one of only 15,968 Fiero GT cars produced in 1987.

When tested for safety the only car that did better than me in my year was the Volvo! At the time of production, the Fiero was the only American car EVER built to Swedish (the most stringent in the world) safety standards.

According to a Hemmings Motor News Article:

The Fiero's enduring legacy is its revolutionary space-frame design, which was used on GM's 1990s minivans and survives today in Saturn cars. The Fiero's 600-pound space frame consisted of six modules and 280 galvanized and high-strength steel stampings joined by 3,800 welds. The Fiero's unstressed body panels were painted in relation to each other, off of the car. Rigid Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) was used on the roof, the front and rear decklids, the headlamp doors and the upper rear quarter panels. Reinforced Reaction Injection Molded (RRIM) plastic could resist parking lot dents, and was used in the doors, front fenders and lower rear quarters, while Reaction Injected Molded (RIM) polyurethane made up the flexible bumper covers.

My four wheel independent suspension provides uncharacteristically accurate handling for a vehicle of my size and price range.
I have a Muncie (Getrag)- 5-speed transmission that was rebuilt a few months ago and an engine that was rebuilt about four years ago. I have recently had brake work completed. I have an extra installed temperature gage from when the motor was rebuilt.

Mind you, the V6 GT Fiero NEVER suffered from engine fires!

The Fiero GT is a RWD, mid engine, and won't break after a few hard turns. It is said that the 87 GT has a curb weight of roughly 2700. And that as a fun driver you can get decent torque out of the vehicle.

20th anniversary since my building demise and there is still an interest in me as a unique little pocket rocket tuner. I am a fantastic fixer upper with lots of potential for speed demons.

Also according to Hemmings Motor News:

Because they were over-engineered, Fieros are ripe for engine upgrades, and a surprising number of enthusiasts take on the challenge. "Purists who want to keep a stock appearance but increase power will stroke the 2.8-liter into a 3.4-liter," Todd notes. Stock 2.8-liter V-6s also respond well to turbocharging and computer calibration upgrade chips; and larger fuel injectors, oil coolers and free-flow exhaust systems with headers will also add power. Todd says that actual engine swaps are easy, with popular alternatives being GM's normally aspirated or supercharged 3800 V-6 and Cadillac's 4.9-liter V-8, although Chevrolet's 3.4-liter V-6 and Cadillac's 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 add some complication but are feasible. The ubiquitous small-block Chevy V-8, in all its wildly upgradeable forms, has also successfully found a home between the Fiero's rear wheels.

Because of its super-strong space frame, the Fiero is a great base for chassis upgrades. Spring, shock and strut rates can be upgraded for tauter handling, and stock Delco shocks can be replaced by adjustable Konis. Upgrading the brakes of a pre-1988 GT is easy: Install the vented front rotors and calipers from 1988 Grand Am and the master cylinder from a full-size 1992 Chevy Blazer 4x4, or use four rear 11.25-inch rotors from a 1989-1995 Chrysler LeBaron with 1982-1992 Camaro front and 1979-1985 Eldorado, Seville or Riviera rear calipers. If you have a 1988 GT, you can re-use your stock calipers and upgrade the front rotors to the 12-inch versions from a 1988-1995 Corvette. Nearly any stock wheel with a 5-lug, 100-mm bolt pattern will fit a Fiero, including those from a 1990s Pontiac Grand Am or Vibe, Beretta GTU, Celica GTS or a PT Cruiser. With minimal cash and some creativity, you can make a Fiero GT into the semi-exotic sports car of your dreams.

Damage to rt frt qp. Headlamps raisers doing the usual (kits are available from a few places) [currently being held up now by dual overhead toringo cans - lol], headliner material pulled for replacement (board undamaged). One company (I can give sources if you want privately) has matching headliner material by the yard. Sails with the usual cracks. Repainting several years ago and fading. Blue in color with silver down below. Gray Interior.

I have been driven just under 160K.
