95 Sub Fuel Pump replacement advice or tricks??

My 1995 Suburban has about 135K miles on it now and I have a couple of trips planned for it this year. I'm going to replace the fuel pump now for preventative maintenance. I am getting it from the dealer, not after market, but is there any advice or tricks that could be offered in advance? I've got the tank almost empty, and I read that it may be easier to disconnect the fill nozzle from the body as opposed to messing with the line itself...

Any other "tricks" ?? Thanks in advance for anything that makes this go smoother!!

You can get the same pump from your local parts place usually at a lot better price than dealer.
Just ask for a AC-Delco/Delphi fuel pump.
Do not let them sell you anything else.

When replacing the fuel pump watch for and disconnect the vent lines on the ends of the tank.
And reach up on top of the tank and get the fuel lines and wiring unplugged before dropping the tank all of the way down.
I find it gives more room to unplug lines and wires if I remove the drive shaft.
Sometimes it works better to unscrew the filler cap fitting from body.
Some filler hoses have a small inside hose that is a pain if the filler pipe is not left on hoses.
If your fuel pump comes with a new plug in always solder the wires and seal up wiring with sealer.
The quick connect wiring ends with the plug kit does not give a good connection or good waterproof connection.
And do not forget to check/change the fuel filter and double check fuel pressure when done.
