Service Engine Soon Light?

I have a 2001 Silverado 5.3L and the Service Engine Soon light is on. Truck runs perfect so I went autozone and Kragen both so see if they could pull a code. The said that they can only if it's a Check Engine light, not Service Engine soon like mine is.
How do you check to see what's causing the service engine soon light to come on? Am I going to have to take the darn truck to the dealer?:banghead:

"Check Engine Soon" (CES), "Check Engine Light" (CEL) and "Service Engine Soon" (SES) lights are the same thing. It means there is a DTC code or codes telling the VCM/PCM that something isn't right. These lights were designed to alert the driver that something isn't working right with the way the motor is running and influencing the emission components.
Take it back to them and say "I have a check engine light, please pull the DTC's from the VCM for me".
They may have thought it was "change oil" light or something like that.
Post back the code numbers (pxxxx), not the code description, and we'll try to help you out.
