Got Laid Off

So i went into work today, and my manager said he wanted a word.

Told me that there isn't a place for me in the workshop, so i'm out of a job. He told me that at the end of the week i'll be given a week's notice. I'm not sure how they figured that there isn't a place for me. i'm one of three competent technicians. i do my job. i turn up everyday on time, i work through lunch most days and stay late everyday working.

I left about half an hour after being told that. took my tools and went home.

What's more stupid is that they employ three fucking monkeys that can't tell their asshole from their earhole. they can barely manage fitting tyres and exhausts. whereas i do a lot of in-depth work, and have my own tools. i deal with customers, help explain things to people on the phone when the guys at the desk can't and generally do a lot more than my job really involves.

My manager told me it's nothing personal. what difference does that make? at the end of the day, i'm still out of a job and still have bills to pay. i'm quite pissed over this and wanted to vent.

That's horrible man!!! For some reason it always seems like the good people get screwed and the dumb ones float right through!!!

Yeah, they probably think that they're better off because the ones who can't do anything are cheap as they don't pay them anything.

What they don't realise is that they can get rid of two of them, and i can do all the work they do.

Sorry to hear that. I am starting a new job tomorrow. I was working as a driver for a Pepsi franchise and they saw the need to start taking money out of my check for anything they pleased. long story short, the new job will pay alot more and will be more fun. I am sure you will find something better. Just keep your mind open.

Well, that sucks. But, you were looking for a job when you found that one. Chances are, you'll actually end up finding something better.

at your age you're destined to go thru a few jobs before you find the right fit, a passage of sorts. the worst that happened to me when i was young and dumb was when i got fired and later found out it was the manager that was stealing from the company and i was the fall guy.

Oh well, found a $1 more an hour job with better hours to shoot weddings and what not. I'm happy. Took some time though and got me scared.

I'll be starting doing the tech work next monday, when my friend Brian is back from vacation.

Until then, i'm helping drum up some business. Dropping flyers on VW-Audi Group cars (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda) i get $0.20 for each flyer and $10 for everyone who makes a booking in response to the flyer (Special offer on servicing.) Today i covered 14.4 miles and put out 500 flyers. I would've done more, but ran out of flyers. Then on my way home, my mum called and asked if i wanted to go running. So i then did 5.8 miles of combined walking/running. Soooo.. 20.2 miles today, $100 too! (plus possible bonues monies!!)

I wouldn't want to do this for a living, but it's quite fun for a short period of time. Get to choose you own hours, work/walk at you own pace etc.. i got up a 1pm! did something like 4 hours and 20 mins putting out flyers. :tongue:

It's good, i'm looking forward to starting the tech work when Brian's back, the tools need to be worked again. Kills me that i've spent so much money on them and they've been sitting in my garage unused for 2 weeks.

Well, i was lucky that due to the old shop dodgy tax evasion thing, i got paid for 6 days i didn't work! which happened to be the 6 days between getting laid off, and getting the new job! Now is that good planning, or what?

According to a customer at the shop i just left, by owning a Ferrari "Your chances of getting laid go up like.. 30%!!"

So, his chance of getting laid is somewhere around 30%.

It never makes sense man, they don't deserve you man. I hope your job prospects are well though man. Sometimes, things can bring better results from shit.

Same thing happened to me the end of May. I quit my job because I wanted to kill my boss. I ended up getting another job that pays better and is more fun/less stress. And, I never killed my boss which I think is a plus. maybe.

Well, happened again yesterday. Got told i no longer have a job. Shit happens. Old boss doesn't appreciate that if you treat people like shit, they'll do the same to you. Monday morning, i'm calling the Inland Revenue to report everything i know about the group of companies, his aliases, the fraud, the tax evasion etc..

Anyway, i think my toolbox looks better in my home garage. :)

Good news is that i talked to my old manager, a 19-year VW veteran, he's going to try get me a job at the local VW dealership. Quality. :)
