My 2nd car was a used 78 TA with the "Z" motor...188HP TA400. Car is blackw/ gold and has the WS6 and Hurst tops. Haven't driven in about 6 years and all I did was remove the carb and lent to a friend. Has a bit of rust in the quarters...how many don't right, and needs alot of work in the rear clip.

I do want to restore this car, I have rebuilt the motor when I bought it since it had about 6 wiped cam lobes ans now is only punched .030 over with a mild .268 Comp cam. I figure I may tear it down again but runs superb as is. I need a new carb and what should be my course of action for this...Edelbrock or factory Q-jet? Also, without seeing the car, how difficult is replacing the rear frame rails/quarters, and rear bumper mount or should I look for a good rear clip?

I have many more questions but this won't get fixed staring at it and I have the bug so any input/criticism appreciated....thanks.

A replacement Q-Jet is the way to go. Too many problems with the Edelbrock carbs. The Edelbrock version of Q-Jet is decent, but fits Chevy. Fuel lines are different. Cliff's High Performance in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, is the best source for a Pontiac Q-Jet.

The rear portion does not have "rails" per se. It is a uni-body and the floor is integral with the suspension mounting points. A body guy is in order. Have a good one look at it to determine the best course of action.
