I'm in the middle of removing the transmission from my 1989 oldsmobile 98, and it calls for the removal of the subframe. once removed, and the transmisson is out, can i set the car back on the front wheels?
Thanks,

can i set the car back on the front wheels? No, not without an engine support. Most trans shops remove the drivers side frame support bolts and loosen the passenger side bolts enough to remove the transaxle without removing the whole subframe.

i have an engine support bar that i'm using to support the engine. The procedure according to my haynes manual is to remove the subframe. after i pull the trans, i would like to set the car back on the wheels, and support it from underneath so i can close the hood and not have it sitting in my driveway with the hood up.

IIRC, this car will have a separable Frame... Look at the front Passenger side of the frame, you should see a few bolts holding it together at the corner.. You should not have to remove the Passenger side of the frame or the Main frame to body bolts...
You should support the engine tho and have a way to get the trans onto the ground...
