I have a 1994 E150 with the 5.8L V8 and it has a skip or a miss in the motor. It does it when it idles and when i am going down the road. There is no consistantcy to this problem at all. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, TPS, ICV, PCV Valve, the vacum hoses are perfect it has a new OEM fuel pump and new fuel filters. I am stumped at this point. I can't even get this problem to show up on a dioagnostic computer because the check engine light dosn't come on.

Any suggestons would be great.

I would pull all the wires and boots and put them back on to make sure they are on securely. If it doesn't show a misfire code it could be a dirty fuel injector. Put some cleaner in the tank. Pull the negative terminal off the battery for 5 minutes. It will reset the computer to relearn any of the recent work you have done on the motor.

I know this is an old thread but I have the exact same problem with the same year and engine in a econoline e150. Does anyone know if this problem was ever solved or did I end up with this vehicle? LOL:runaround:

Hey! I have exact same issue - 94 E-150 5.8 and strange skip in engine. I have had a shop run all the diagnostics on it and nothing strange shows up. I have put over 11K miles on it and it runs great other than this.

I hope some Ford guru out there has an answer!

Back again. The 1993 and 1994 E 150's with the 5.8 L engines have had a problem with the computers causing a miss. If all of the ignition components have been replaced without solving the miss, it's the computer. You can get one at O'Reilly's for about $106.

I have a 94 e-250 with 5.8l that does same thing. Has anyone changed the computer and fixed the problem. Thanks for any help on this it's driving me crazy.

Its been one year and I never fixed the issue. Ive been 6000 miles too. It never gets worse or better but now the head gasket is gone so I need to figure things out. If the skip is an internal engine issue I should replace the engine. I found some at the local junk yard for $350. One of them actualy states that it was "skippy". I was going to try replacing the computer but its $250. There were 3 different ones for my van and 2 were $100 and the one I needed was $250 so I didnt want to pay that much for a guess. If anyone has figured this issue out.....please let us know what it was.
Thank you.

My 95 5.8 E150 with 125 thousand miles idled like someone was shutting off the ignition and turning it back on instantly every ten seconds or so after the engine warmed up. It also would buck when I accelerated or cruised. If I disconnected the TPS or the MAP sensor and then started the motor the idle problem would disappear but the van wouldn't run right. After changing the TPS, MAP, EGR and sensor[my only code], and the module and of course a complete tune I still had the problem.
I finally installed a reman computer from Advanced Auto and the problem is solved.
I think that when the computer went from open loop to closed loop that it's defect happened.....noengerny@gmail.com.
