shfiter lock and cluters problems

93 land curiser, recently the cluter dash lights are not working but the head lights turn on. the shifter lock override has to be press and held down in order to move the gear shifter from park. after it is out of park the shifter moves freely thur other gears without the aid of the override button. override button only needs to be help down inorder to get the car out of park. has anyone had this similar sitution or possible direct to solving the problem. i suspect the brake light switch is at fault, any suggestions out there. tryed to look up wiring diagram, no sucess.
