Fuel Injectors

Hi there

I want to clean out my injectors but I want to know if anyone knows if motorcraft makes an injector o'ring kit and what is the part number, I know Fel-pro has a fuel injector kit but I prefer to use motorcraft even if it is more expensive. Also are the top and bottom injector o'rings the same because from what I have seen there are blue and green o'rings on each injector. So do I need different o'rings for the fuel rail and different o'rings for the bottom of the injector that goes into the engine. I need 12 in total.

I have a 1999 windstar 3.8 liter

You could check with your local FORD dealer for the "O" ring gaskets.
My suggestion would be to run a couple of cans of Berryman's B-12 Chemtool through.....1 can in each tank of gasoline.
The fuel injectors on the windstar seem to be very reliable......they DO build up crud on the spray end......not inside the injector....but just over the spray end.
I have found that the Berryman's in the metal can cleans this up.
I have tried MANY more expensive products....and this is the only one that seems to work.
I now run this through a couple times a year......and the program is working very well for me.

I did order an oring kit for my 1999 windstar part number CM4717 from y2kford but the weird thing is that the kit only comes with 10 orings not 12. I called y2k and they said it is the weirdest thing they have seen but he said the old gaskets are reusable so i will just take the 2 best of the old ones and reuse them.

Wiswind what did you use to spray the crud out once yuo removed the injectors from the van, did you just use carburator cleaner???? Thanx

Yes, I just used carborator cleaner.....it flushed right out of there.
Put a light film of clean motor oil over the "O" ring gaskets before putting the injector into the head......as it will help the injector to go in without catching and pulling the gaskets out of place.

But.....BEFORE lifting the injectors OUT of the head......spray around there with a liberal amound of brake parts cleaner to flush all the dirt and grit out of there.......just waiting to fall down into the head when you lift the injector out.
The brake parts cleaner is a nice spray cleaner that leaves NO residue.
If you remove the upper intake manifold......clean around the injectors....and lift the fuel rail.....injectors and all......you will be able to spray the cleaner up inside the "end cap" on each injector.....without disconnecting it from the fuel rail.
Put some towels/rags over the motor to catch the junk you spray out of the injectors.

The other thing that I have done......once the injectors are in place.....and the fuel rail is secured......and you are ready to put the upper intake manifold back in place.......BEFORE putting the upper intake manifold in place.......turn the key to the "RUN" position....but do NOT crank the engine.........check all around the fuel rail for any signs of fuel leakage.
Much easier to see fuel leakage (if present) and much easier to correct at this point.
