You need to change the heads, intake, and I believe the carb also has to be changed, but I'm not 100% on that.

It takes a lot more than that. The L82 uses 4 bolt mains and a forged crank, in addition to a different cam and higher compression pistons. Even then, the L82 is a dog compared to more modern setups, like a vortec kit. With the money you spent converting to an L82 setup, you would be far better off rebuilding and going to a higher compression setup or even getting a crate engine.:2cents:

the Vortec heads work pretty good with a L-82 spec cam

The L82 cam is really mild. The one I pulled from a stock L82 was the old '929 cam - GM 3896929 .390"/.410" 196º/205º 112º LSA. It went to the scrap bin in favor of a slightly less mild aftermarket cam - .443" /.465" - 214º/224º - 112º LSA, and performed much better with the '416 heads which replaced the original stock smog-dog castings.

Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but the L82 was about on par with a 1984 Ford Fiesta for power. If you're really going to spend any money on it, take the previous advice and start with a later (roller) block and create something worthy of a Y-Car.
