most all alternators have a two pin plug in on the side top of the alternator (believe its callled the regulator) along with a larger wire on the back that goes to the solenoid. i have the larger wire on the back of the alternator, but the two pin plug in on the top side isnt plugged in. it seems that a previous owner found no use for them and cut the wires off. my truck will have a good charge showing as long as i'm moving, but with it at idle or sitting at a stop signal, the charge indicator drops to about 10 to 11 volts. the truck has no problems starting, running or in performance but i am sure those two pins are meant to be plugged in for some reason.
my question is....what color are the wires that i need to find to plug it back in and where should these wires lead to? the connector to the alternator is missing, but everything on the truck appears to be functioning, including the dash gauge. do these wires have anything to do with my low charging at idle?
