I have a 2004 Grand Am w/ 113K miles. My car continues to run hot while in idle. Has water/antifreeze in radiator, not the water pump. Help!

Could be the thermostat, though what is the actual temp the gauge is reading ?
And what engine do you have ?
Hot can be normal, 200-220 deg . Here is the fan operating range....
The PCM commands Low Speed Fans ON under the following conditions:
The engine coolant temperature exceeds approximately 106°C (223°F).
The A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1310 kPa (190 psi).
The vehicle is shut off when the engine coolant temperature is greater than 140°C (284°F) and system voltage is more than 12 volts. The fans will stay ON for approximately 3 minutes.
The PCM commands High Speed Fans on under the following conditions:
The engine coolant temperature reaches 110°C (230°F).
The A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1655 kPa (240 psi).
When certain DTCs set.

Thanks xeroinfinity...
The temp is at normal while driving (200) and when sitting in idle for a couple of minutes or in traffic moving slowly it goes to (220-230). But as soon as I begin to drive steady at 55-60 mph it goes back to normal.
Could it possibly just be a fuse? I have a V6 9not sure of my engine size)..
Just a woman trying to figure out her car problems. :banghead:

I'd try a cooling system flush and some new coolant and a new thermostat.
That should help with the temperature fluctuations.
If not then thier could be other problems.
It is within the normal range that most of the v6s run with stop and go traffic.
Hope that helps!
