alright here is my problem looking to buy a cold air intake and cant really figure out which one i should get a short ram intake or a cold air. my grand am has ram air and the clod air intake looks like it relocates the filter outside of the ram air box where as the short ram sits it right in it just looking for some advice. thanks

Welcome to AF.

IT's realy personal prefferance.

I've had all the intakes and the CAI gives the most you can feel in your pants.

My ram air intakes were pointless realy , when the plastic filter box gets hot from daily driving, it was just cooling the box more then anything IMO.
Though the incoming air is cooling the motor and TB area, that's a plus when you have a CAI or a WAI as you are describing.

I'm sure others will wiegh in on this too.

The Cold Air intake does exactly what it Sounds like it draws cold air from outside the car into the manifold. Thus the air being cold its better for the engine.

Short Ram is basically an air filter after your Throttlebody and instead of it pulling in cold air, its breathing in warm air from inside the engine bay

i got a 2002 grand am se 3.4, and speeking of cold air intake, what modifications would I need to do? I was thinking of atatching it right to the air filter box and taking the air filter out and putting the cold air intake down right where the air came from before, but removing the plastic pieces that drew the air.
any modifications or places the filter is best in?

thanks

yeah thats not gonna do anything, there only so much air the intake can take in, if you want ram air your going to need yo pretty much cut a hole in your hood and make your intake stick about 2 inches out of the hood, but since that looks tacky your only option is stock garbage ram air or a cold air intake, preferably ram air is BS so go with the cold air intake... the only cold air intake made for our car relocates the filter into the fenderwall.

ya if you're wanting an aftermarket cold air, ebay has some that work nicely... dont even bother messing with the stock air box, even a K&N Drop in filter isnt really worth the hassle lol

chromeintakes I think the seller is, they're decent and get the job done for about $80 or so... your best bet for cold air
