Education Has Gone To Pot

So I'm starting my new online school to finish my BA and I'm dying listening to their orientation. Aside from stealing $800 from me by making me take a class on taking online classes, which I've done for 2yrs, they've turned it into MySpace.

I'm going to Ellis College and they have a MyEllis Page. They suggest I maintain my blog, join groups, and make friends. WTF!?!

Ok ok, now while it kinda makes sense because people seem to have no discipline in their life except in the useless areas such as myspace and what not so it's almost reverse psychology. But not everyone is a bubblegum 18yr old wearing a skirt with pigtails. Ellis is a highly rated online school for the military. This just seems likek a waste and in any hope doesn't reflect on us.

I just needed to rant but also state that our world is pathetic if this is what we have to do to get kids an education.

I think it's unfortunate, but I also think it's indicitive of how much of the youth of today responds to a variety of topics and especially indicitive of the enormous role that the digital world plays in the real world.

If you think about just how big the multimedia options are and how easy it is for people our age and younger, it almost makes perfect sense that a school would offer a degree entirely online (University of Phoenix, anyone?).

I mean seriously, think about it: Every news outlet you can think of has a web page, lest they be the only news source to not go digital and quickly be forgotten. We can watch whole television episodes online, watch debates, watch time-delayed programs that are happening on news channels, get our movies, read books, order groceries and other ammenities - hell, you can even download the previous 4 or 5 state of the union addresses off iTunes (I believe) for free.

Perhaps this is a sign of just how large a role the digital age is playing in our lives now and a sign of things to come, considering we've only just scratched the surface of the potential that is out there.

University of Phoenix are EVERYWHERE! I'm still kinda sketchy about taking online courses from them or any online uni's. I haven't met anyone that finished there courses or graduated from them.

I went to UofA (Uni of Arizona) and I was boggled that there tuition was raised when I see that they have there own stores inside the facility and inside the campus, like McDonalds/Subway/Clothing stores and tech stores. SO why raise the tuition when they have there own little "mall" that finances the school?? I just don't get it.

Damien, couldn't you just take your posts on AF and recycle them into your blog for school? Feel free to use my "yellow snowman" of you.
