Hi there.
I recently sold my 1999 Suburban 1500 LT 4x2 and got a 2005 Suburban 1500LS 4x2. The '99 had about 105k on it and I felt like I just couldn't rely on it any more after the tranny ceased its function during a family vacation last year. That was an expensive trip. I just had the tranny serviced too & asked the mechanic to look it over closely as, guess what, the warranty was about to expire.
I like the '05 so far, seems to ride better & I like the stability control feature. Disappointed that is has the same transmission though. A 1968 Camaro that has been in the family since new has gone through two engines (and four teenage drivers) but is still using the original transmission. Can I get an "aww yeah" for the 2-speed powerglide?
Anyway, on to my question: The 2005 suburban has what looks like a speaker grille molded into the plastic trim on the LH side of the cargo area. I looked inside from where the jack & tools are stored and it is just empty space. Does anyone know what this is for? I thought maybe subwoofer, but later found that is in the center console.

Yep, it's a dummy speaker cover. Who knows why though as there isn't any room with the tire jack back there. You are correct, the subwoofer is under the center console somewhere.
