2001 Passat acceleration prob. (nub)

I just bought an 01 Passat and it seems that when I first hit the accelerator, the cars jerks slightly backward and forward about 3 times before accelerating slowly. It eventually picks up speed but at a slow rate. I'm not sure whether or not I'm applying enough pressure on the pedal. It seems my old Honda Accord reacts to the slightest touch. This is my first VW so I have no idea what I'm looking for. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The gas has to be premium, check if the air filter is new, spark plugs, etc. Also, is there any check engine light (autozone checks it for free)? What is the engine and mileage?

Everything seems ok. It has a 1.8L Turbo with 60K. Think it's turbo lag?

Just got a complete tune-up, car still jerks. Maybe it's the ASR?
