From reading these forums i heard that the 91-92 sc2/sl2 header produces slightly better performance than the stock 99 sl2.
someone also said that it fit 93-99 models but others are saying the flange needs to be welded.
so basically i'm just wondering if its a clean fit or not.

head bolt pattern is different in the '99. some modding is needed.

The 91-92 SC header does 70% of the job that aftermarket Saturn headers do so they are a good buy IMO. The engine will be louder, but I don't regret swapping mine out nevertheless. And that's assuming they are still availabe; OBX is the only current one I know of last time I checked. Plus the 91-92 headers already has a bracket to help prevent it from cracking, one common problem when getting Saturn aftermarket headers.
Yes, it won't be a direct bolt on for you as mentioned. Pattern changed in 99.

is modding the bolt pattern worth the trouble or is an aftermarket header the better way to go

I would just go aftermarket and get a similar bracket custom made for the header. It will be a little more effective once you get a CAI, bigger exhaust, and a bored out throttle body.

depends how crafty you are and your resources. i would think you would need to cut the flange off and make your own with the right bolt hole locations to do it right. then weld it to the downpipes.
or you can get headers for under 200 on ebay with gaskets and plug and play
