Hey everyone,
A friend of mine has a '97 Grand Cherokee and 3 of the 4 power windows are not working. The only window that is working right now is the driver's door. No other windows will work from any switches (specific door or driver's door).
I haven't had a chance to look at the vehicle due to work, and the weather outside has been very cold lately. I told them I would this weekend though.
The owner told me they checked all of the fuses inside on the passenger side and under the hood. Anyone know what specific fuses/relays are for the windows and where they are located so I can double check them?
I'm thinking maybe the wiring in the driver's door is bad, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to bring this question up with others who are at least familiar with the vehicle. I've never touched one so I have to guess at where things might be.
Feel free to e-mail me a reply also at ktulay@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance!

Very common problem......open the drivers door, pull back the rubber boot that covers the wires in the door jamb, most likely you will see several broken wires, once they are repaired the windows should work again

I hate to write this because I'm sure they/you already know this, but it did happen to me once and it took a few minutes to figure out so here goes nothing...
There is a power-window-lock on the drivers door that if you hit, won't allow the other windows to come down. That lock doesn't lock up the driver's window though...It's just a button/switch or something and can be unlocked the same way it's locked.

+1 on JOE, I had a very similar issue, lost passenger controls of the individual windows in spite of trying a couple cleanings of that lockout switch. Pulled back the boot that protects the wiring harness and several wires had cracked or come apart. I'll bet that's your friend's issue. :)

Hello.........I have same problem on my rig. Power windows and locks both started with issues at the same time. At first it was an intermittent problem, then only drivers window and drivers front and rear locks work. I have power to main lock switches on both sides. Passenger side will operate drivers side locks only as will the master switch on drivers door. I have checked wiring in doors and it seems pliable and perfect. Could this be one wire to the passenger side controlling all ??? I believe that I have narrowed it down to being the master control block of switches on the drivers door but I am going to do more testing of the wiring before I replace anything. Any problems with the circuit boards under the switches ???
ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED.
JIM.........1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis
Cold air induction, Chrome headers, Hyper chip, Stainless 2 1/2" exaust with crossover to single exit, Air shocks all the way around, ARB front air locker with underhood compressor, 265/16 snows, 110,000 miles and I love it. Have had it for about two years now. Have done some fairly healthy off-roading but most of mods are to surprise people and to get through a foot of snow here and there down three miles of hill to the freeway in Washington.
