Engine Swap: Gas to Diesel

I have a 1990 Chevy R-1500 Sub. with 5.7L auto

I have a wrecked PU with a 6.2L diesel. How hard would it to swap a 6.2L diesel in place of the 5.7L engine. I am wanting to get the 22 mpg instead of 14.5.

What? Import?

I know this. The TH700R-4 trans will bolt up to the 6.2L diesel engine and the motor mounts are the same. I will have to get a heavier duty radiator, different torque converter, relays for glow plugs, 2nd battery and tray. What else?

LOL, I did the opposite of this swap in back in 1999. I had a 6.2 blazer that I converted to a TBI 5.7L from a 1991 PU. I swaped because I got tired of the 6.2 gelling up in the winter and cost of parts.

For your swap, I think you have hit on some of the biggest hurdles you will face. I think you will have to remove the electric in tank pump and put in a different fuel pick up in the tank. As I remember the 6.2 has a mechanical lift pump on the engine that feeds the injection pump.

Wiring will be a challenge. But you've already mentioned that. It helps that you have a donor truck, so you can take pics before the swap and take as much of the 6.2 harness as possible over to the burb.

And to answer your 1st question, yes this will be hard, doable but hard.
