The beautiful Giugiaro-designed Maserati Merak was born in 1972. The identically-shaped, mid-engined little brother of the more powerful Maserati Bora, it was powered by a 2L V6 in standard form and a 3L V6 as the 150mph Merak SS.

I whole-heartedly agree. The Merak is simply beautiful. There's one for sale on eBay right now, that's Black with custom Black/Yellow interior. I was drooling over it for quite a while earlier... makes me want one very badly. If only money would permit... :banghead:

Beautiful doesnt begin to do it justice :)
You can pick one up for reasonable money here in the UK, but i dont know how reliable, i.e. cheap it will be to maintain. How much is the one on Ebay? Sell your current car and bid!!

lol Maybe, I'm not sure. My family is getting rid of my other car (2002 Firebird V6) in about 10 months or so, to get a car for my sister. During that time I may try to get rid of the Z3 and get something else... I'm not sure yet. Although, I really like how those Merak's look. I haven't really heard if they're reliable or anything, though. Also, the few that are for sale on eBay are SS's; atleast, as far as I've seen. Is there any sort of engine swap that one could perform to maybe get some better performance out of the car? 200-220 Horsepower in a car like that most definitely doesn't do it justice. Hmm... I just noticed... The Merak reminds me a lot of the Pantera, lol. Oh, and the one on eBay is going for $8,500 currently, but the reserve price hasn't been met yet, and the auction still has 8 Days left. Take a looksie here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6313&item=2435835300 :sunglasse

The yellow interior is vile... but i still think you should bid :D
220bhp is plenty, there's a lot more to appreciate in this car than straight-line pace :)

The Merak is too good looking! I saw one recently in the flesh at a dealer and I was like ''what is that???''... a net search revealed that they only made about 1800 cars in total and there were 3 V6 engines : a 3.0 with 190hp then a 220hp 3.0 (Merak SS) and a small 2.0L/170hp made for the italian market (tax-cut version). It uses some parts from the Citroen SM coupe as it was developed during the time Maserati was owned by Citroen (and the SM uses its engine). I'm not sure if that's good or bad...
